Gearing & Transmission »

All Pinzgauers have a fully enclosed drive train, meaning it's protected from damage by rocks, tree stumps, dust, sand and water ingress. The spine chassis starts from the front tow point, and runs through to the rear tow point, and is fabricated from heavy gauge steel.

The gearboxes are all manufactured by ZF, with a high / low two speed synchronised transfer case, and whether 4 speed Auto or 5 speed Manual are robust enough to cope with driving on any terrain.

All models have a disk handbrake directly onto the drive train, not just the rear wheels like conventional 4 x 4 vehicles. With such robust transmission, a Pinzgauer can easily tow 2000 to 2500 Kg, and comfortably maintain traction on the steepest of slopes.

The only other commercially available vehicles with enclosed transmission, are the Daimler Benz Unimog and the Tatra 6x6 and 8x8 trucks.

However the Pinzgauer is the only vehicle of it's size and maneuverability with this technology.
